Plug In 11: Why Am I Here?

This week we answer the question:"Why are we here on this world?" There are many times in our lives when we think, "am I invisible?" or "am I worth anything?"  Society, for the most part, decides this question for us as we live out our lives.  If we don't fit in the box that contains just the right amount of beauty, smarts, humor and athleticism we are considered outcasts, losers, ugly or stupid. Or if we are overqualified for the box we are labeled a princess, geek, jock or obnoxious.

To answer the question "Why am I here?" we should take a look at our purpose in life.  The answer is simple... Glorify God!  "How do i do that Kris?" If we decide to glorify God, we need to be his representation and representative on earth.  By being his representation, we are like lawyers for God. We can prove and defend the existence of our Creator and what we believe.  If we choose to be his representatives we mimic what Jesus did while on earth.  We show God's love to all, we share the gospel messages, we listen to others, we pray and the list goes on and on.  That's a huge list!  I know, but what are some of the basic responsibilities as a Christian?

Genesis 1:28 - God calls man to rule and subdue creation
Genesis 2:15 - God calls man to work and guard the garden
Psalm 115:1 -  "Not to us but to your name be the glory
"
Colossians 3:1-17 - Rules for Holy Living
Isaiah 43:7 - God Created People for His Glory
1 Corinthians 10:31 - Whatever I do I do to the glory of God

Basically it falls down to this, We need to Glorify God. We bring glory to God by loving Him. We show our love by obeying him.

Obeying God's Commands = Loving God = Glorifying God

So why are we here?  To obey God's commands and to use the gifts that he has given each of us.  What gifts are those....I may not be a smarty, or the handsomest guy on the planet, let alone on my block, and I'm sure that the Garden of Eden isn't at my house!  But God has blessed me with a wonderful wife, kids, home and church.  If I don't work, protect or glorify God with each of those things, I'm not obeying God.  Think of the things that you have been blessed with, whether it be a possession, relationship or talent.  Ask yourself if you are glorifying God with those things.  And then start doing it more often.
