Who We Are
Real community...real people...real life: perhaps you don't normally associate these terms with "church" or
"religion" in today's society. But we're here to tell you church can be all of these things and so much more, because we love and serve a great big God who sent His Son, Jesus Christ, for us! Because of Him we desire to build a strong community of God-followers committed to living out the principles found in the Bible and to helping each other, no matter what...
Maybe it's been awhile since you've been at church. Maybe you've never stepped foot into a church, because of the fear of being judged or feeling that church is irrelevant and disconnected from the real world. We want to let you know - we validate those feelings (many of us have been burned too!) but we believe church can be done differently - not a rule-based code to follow but the freedom to love and obey Christ and to love each other. If you're looking to grow your spiritual life and find people who are real and really care, check us out this Sunday - be a part of a growing community! Experience true LIFE and meet people who, just like you, are looking for something more...
Worship Style. At Gold Canyon Community Church you will find the worship service is in a contemporary style, with a full band. We realize that if we want to be culturally relevant to the community we're trying to reach, we can't allow the experience in church to be below-par compared to what people experience in the rest of their lives. Gold Canyon Community Church is an interdependent church that preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed in the New Testament and is committed to being culturally relevant while at the same time biblically sound. At Gold Canyon we emphasize the "community" aspect of our name because we believe that church can be a place where everyone is loved and accepted "as they are." We really want to be a church that treasures people more than anything else!
History Gold Canyon Community Church officially opened on Easter 2000 at Thunder Mountain
Middle School, located off Goldfield Rd. in Apache Junction. We then moved to a larger facility at Peralta Trail Elementary School in Gold Canyon. In June 2010 we moved to the former Gold Canyon Elementary School which allowed us to combine our seperate office location and Worship Service location into one building. We now meet at 5810 S Alameda Rd in Gold Canyon each and every Sunday to worship God, learn about His truths and build one another up in love. We are a "daughter" church of Mission Community Church, located in Gilbert, AZ, and previously received support from Joy Community Fellowship, located in Pitman, NJ. Many churches and individuals have come together to support our efforts to reach our community for Christ, and it is indeed a privilege to have their support. We are affiliated with the Converge Southwest and more specifically Vision Arizona. In addition, we are a part of the Willow Creek Association, an organization which brings together like-minded churches and equips them to reach out to their respective communities.
We welcome any and all people to join with us on Sunday mornings to worship God and to learn principles from the Bible. We accept everyone as they are and emphasize the community of believers worshiping together on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. Our services will be biblically centered but culturally relevant, and our emphasis will always be on worshiping the God who made us and who is infinitely worthy of our praise!
We understand that many times people find church boring, irrelevant, unfriendly or judgmental - and that's just for starters - and we are here to say that it doesn't have to be that way! Our desire is to see people in the Gold Canyon-Apache Junction area come to know Christ in a personal and transforming way. We think that church can be the kind of place you actually look forward to going to, not something you can't wait to leave. Sound like something you'd be interested in checking out? Why not visit us this Sunday?
For those of you who would like to know more about some of our specific doctrinal beliefs please refer to our affirmation of faith, here linked from our denominational website. We look forward to serving you this Sunday, so come and see what the church can be!
